The Astara Team has completed a new edition of the Dakar Rally, the most demanding motorsport event in the world. After two exhausting weeks, Laia Sanz and Maurizio Gerini have closed a formidable participation at the controls of the Astara 02 Concept, becoming one of the references among the two-wheel drive cars and managing to finish within the Top 15 of the general classification of cars.
With just 175 competitive kilometers and a 99-kilometer liaison to the final podium, the twelfth stage of the Dakar presented a much less demanding route than the last few days, allowing the competitors to manage their strength and that of their mechanics to finally reach the final finish line.
For the pair formed by Laia Sanz and Maurizio Gerini, it was a day to enjoy the great work accomplished over the last two weeks, in an edition of the Dakar Rally that has been especially hard on the vehicles of the T1.2 Ultimate category.
Overcoming all the traps on a competitive route with more than 5,000 kilometers divided into 12 stages, the Sanz-Gerini duo managed to finish in the top 15 of the absolute classification while claiming a position on the podium in the two-wheel drive cars. In turn, Laia is the first classified female driver and the second Spanish representative in the overall car classification.
